Some frequently asked questions about the theatre.
Is the theatre wheelchair accessible?
Yes, both the theatre and bar at Websters have wheelchair access. Entry to the bar is by the side door. The side door is accessed by a ramped lane to the right hand side of the building (as seen from Great Western Road, when facing the front door). Once inside the bar, the building is all on one level and access to the theatre is by the normal route from the bar, via the hall where the box office is situated.
For customers with limited mobility, the wheelchair accessible route is the easiest way to enter the theatre. It is also possible to enter via the main door into the theatre, but there is a small set of external stairs.
Is there a bar in the venue?
Yes, we have a bar in the building. At the moment, the bar is only open when there is a performance in the venue. Once works have been undertaken to repair some weather damage to the steeple, we hope the bar will return to full time operation.
Is there a restaurant in the venue?
No, Websters bistro is currently closed while repairs to the steeple are undertaken.
Is the Box Office open during the day?
The Box Office is only manned when there is a performance in the venue. The box office opens at least 1 hour prior to every performance. The box office phone and email address are checked at least once a day, Tuesday to Saturday, so please give us a call or drop us a line and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
How many seats does the theatre have?
Websters has a fixed seating bank, with a maximum capacity of 182 seats. The seats are numbered and arranged in rows, with row BB closest to the stage. Rows BB, AA and A are at ground level.
Row B is the first row of the raised seating bank, with the remaining rows going up one step at a time until row L. Wheelchair users can be accomodated in row BB of the auditorium.
Who is eligible for Concession tickets?
Our standard policy is to offer concessions to OAPs, Under 16s, Students and the Unwaged. Individual productions may choose to restrict concessions to specific categories, or may choose to offer additional concessions, for instance to Equity Card holders. Any details of changes to the standard policy will be shown on the info pages for individual shows.
Why are there no child tickets?
Children under 16s are usually included in the concession ticket price. If a particular show is offering a different price for children, this will be noted on the page for that show.
Why am I being charged a Ticket Admin fee?
Cottiers and Websters Theatres are independent theatres and do not receive funding subsidies to offer the programme of shows available. As a non-funded venue we have to add a ticket admin charge to tickets to go towards our running costs – these include things like staffing the box office, printers, ticket paper, phone lines, box office software etc.
Can I avoid paying the Ticket Admin fee if I come into the theatre?
No, unfortunately the ticket admin fee applies to all tickets, including tickets purchased in person at the venue. The fee is purely to cover staffing costs and other running costs – without it, we couldn’t afford to have a member of staff at the box office to take your order.
Is the £1 donation when booking online mandatory? What if I don’t want to make a donation?
No, this is a suggested donation. If you don’t wish to include a donation, when you reach the payment screen, change the amount in the donation box from 1.00 to 0.00 and click the recalculate button before you submit your payment details.
The online booking system is really complicated. How am I supposed to fill it all in?
We’ve created a workflow that you can see here to help explain how the online booking system works. Our online booking system is supplied by a company called Seat Advisor, so you may find that card transactions show up on your statement as coming from Seat Advisor, SABO or from Four Acres Charitable Trust or FACT.
Can I come in and pick up my tickets from Cottiers or Websters?
Our Box Office is only manned when there is a performance in the venue, so most of the time, there won’t be anyone at Cottiers or Websters who can print off tickets for you. For Box Office Collection tickets, please wait until the day of the performance and pop in 1 hour or so before the show starts to collect your tickets. The Box Office phone and email address are checked at least once a day, Tuesdays to Saturdays, so please give us a call or drop us a line and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
For panto season, the box office at Websters will also be manned between 2pm and 6pm Tuesdays to Saturdays in November.
